2022 "Under Moon"
Thomas Klein and Karen Bößer will present the performance "Under Moon" on June 15, 2022
as part of the Schumannfest 2022, "Neuland Vol. 2". The performance is a scenic-musical
collaboration in which the animalistic, essential in humans is reflected. An adapted ego and
its animal instincts wrestle with each other, become visible in turn. Morals and drives, forms
of egoism, passion, controversial attitudes and desires flash up and want to dominate.
Opposed to this is the desire and insight for balance. Karen Bößers dance performance leads
into a scenic world of density, intensity, transparency, lightness and abstraction - congenially
carried by Thomas Kleins aka Solyst electro and tribal beats with drums. Together they
struggle to balance the kaleidoscopic centrifugal forces towards humanity and justice.

Getting to know the work of Karen Bößer, Düsseldorf
What do we look for when we watch dancers? What do we expect? What do we feel?
What does their performance have to do with us?
Karen Bößer has been exploring these and other questions in her work as a
choreographer and dancer for years. Her performances open up spaces for intensive
encounters between audience and dancers. Her latest project "Intersection/The Art of
Identity" is no exception.
Together, audience members and performers embark on a journey of encounters,
traversing a course of rapprochement and mutual discovery. The focus is as much on the
individual as on the group as a whole.
Following the performance, Karen Bößer's award-winning dance film S3NSE will be
shown at the Goethe Institute in Rabat. S3NSE is a cinematic experiment full of poetry
and intensity. The English word for "sense" means both rational understanding and
sensual perception. It acts as a bridge between the individual and the world. One that
must be crossed anew every moment. S3NSE is an invitation to empathize, to listen and
simply to be authentically human.
For all those who would like to exchange ideas, there will be a discussion with Karen
Bößer and the participating performers at the end of the film.

Upcoming Event – GTF-Symposium 2025
Karen Boesser will present a lecture performance as part of the GTF-Symposium 2025 in
Vienna:
Die andere Vernunft. Rausch, Trance, Ekstase
This lecture performance revisits the performance project from 2020, exploring altered
states of consciousness — exaltation, trance, and ecstasy — as forms of embodied
knowledge and alternative reason. The presentation interweaves theoretical reflection with
performative practice, creating a resonant space of inquiry and shared experience.

How can movement and dance be realized cinematically? How can the perspectival space be
opened up in the filming process before the film is returned to a perspectivally fixed state,
equated with theater, in the presentation. The eight-minute short film is a black and white
collage of performative recordings with Karen Bößer, created in 2006, 2002, 2003, 2004, and
2005. The footage served as the starting point for the productive process of critically
exchanging editing ideas with the artist Dirk Dietrich Hennig, which culminated in the present
film.

DANCE AND MEDIA JAPAN
International Dance Film Festival 2026
DOCUMENTARY & FICTION YEAR
Dance and Media Japan's International Dance Film Festival, since 2003, is one of the first
dance film festivals held in Japan.
The festival has been introducing outstanding dance films from around the world to
Japanese audiences. Selected works will be screened in Tokyo and then will tour around
Japan. To date, the festival has primarily selected and introduced dance films of a fictional
nature. As "DOCUMENTARY & FICTION," we hope to discover dance films with a
documentary nature alongside those with a fictional nature.
